05 June, 2025 : Freedom fighter Naim Jahangir has filed a writ in court following the cancellation of his gazette and the discontinuation of his allowance. He has also submitted an application to the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JAMUKA). In March, a hearing was held at JAMUKA, where Naim Jahangir presented documents and his statements. He is currently awaiting JAMUKA’s final decision.
Bir Muktijoddha Belayet Hossain, member secretary of the Muktijoddha and Muktijoddha Welfare Association, “Naim Jahangir is a freedom fighter. Due to his affiliation with BNP, some Awami League supporters, in collusion with the minister, cancelled his gazette. Those who received flats are all illegal members of the association. These actions were orchestrated by former general secretary Morshedul Islam.”
Naim Jahangir told Kalbela, “A few members of the Muktijoddha Association, led by Morshed, conspired out of vengeance to cancel my gazette. Nearly 10 years after the cancellation, my allowance was stopped by Minister AKM Mozammel Haque. This unjust action was taken because I spoke out for the rights of the association’s members.”
It has been learned that in 1997, the National Housing Authority allocated approximately 16 acres of land to 275 freedom fighters. When construction of a multi-storied building began in 2010, conflicts arose among the association’s members. As the building became visible, disputes escalated. At one point, several members labeled as BNP supporters were jailed through lawsuits. Later, 18 individuals were illegally made members and given flats.
Among those who illegally received flats are Md. Jahangir Alam, a peon at former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s office, the two daughters of Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Meherin Munjarin and Meherin Musfiqin, Sheikh Hasina’s former advisor Nurjahan Ahmed, and General Secretary of the Volunteer League Gazi Mesbaul Haque Sachchu, among others.
Deprived members of the association have filed a writ in court and applied to the National Housing Authority to cancel the illegally allocated flats. Nurul Basir, chairman of the National Housing Authority, said, “Flats were given to those not listed for land allocation. A writ has been filed in court regarding this issue, and the court will handle it. The housing authority’s work is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, following the political change on August 5, former general secretary Md. Morshedul Islam was arrested by law enforcement agencies on charges of corruption, irregularities, and involvement in a case related to the killing of students and civilians. He is currently in jail, and his statement could not be obtained.
