Hamza Observes Fast Before Eid, Bangladesh Team Rests

Sports Desk, June 05, 2025 : Following their international friendly against Bhutan, the Bangladesh football team has shifted focus to preparations for the Asian Cup qualifiers. However, Wednesday was a complete rest day for the squad. The players stayed at the team hotel, engaging in light recovery sessions and ice baths.

On this rest day, Bangladesh midfielder Hamza Choudhury observed a voluntary fast ahead of Eid-ul-Adha. According to a source from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), Hamza, who grew up in England, remains deeply committed to his religious beliefs. He is fasting in preparation for Eid-ul-Adha, joined by team manager Amer Khan and team attendant Mohammad Mohsin. They reportedly plan to continue fasting tomorrow as well.
Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated in Bangladesh on June 7. Just three days later, on June 10, Bangladesh will face Singapore in a crucial Asian Cup qualifier match in Dhaka. As a result, the team may be seen training even on Eid day. According to the initial plan, players will celebrate Eid with their families in the morning and return to training by 7 PM. The coaching staff aims to balance the festive spirit with rigorous preparation.
For the Singapore match, Bangladesh will don their white home jerseys, with a photoshoot for the kit already completed at the team hotel. Notably, in Tuesday’s match against Bhutan, the team wore their red away jerseys despite it being a home game, as part of a planned experiment.
Though today was a rest day, the team, including players like Jamal Bhuiyan and Hamza Choudhury, will resume full training tomorrow. Preparations for the Singapore match will then enter their final phase. Hamza’s fasting reflects his mental resilience, while the team’s plan to train on Eid underscores their professional commitment.
