Iran Rejects U.S. Nuclear Proposal, Issues Stern Warning

International Desk, 4, 2025 : Iran has firmly rejected a nuclear proposal from the United States, with the country's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warning that Tehran will not halt its uranium enrichment program. This development was reported by Al Jazeera on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

In a speech commemorating the death anniversary of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic in 1979, Khamenei emphasized that the U.S. proposal contradicts Iran’s principle of self-reliance and the nation’s “We Can” ethos. He described uranium enrichment as central to Iran’s pursuit of energy independence, asserting that true independence means not waiting for approval from the U.S. or similar powers.
Khamenei further criticized the U.S. proposal as being fundamentally opposed to the ideals of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He dismissed the notion that rationality equates to submitting to American demands, stating, “Some believe rationality means bowing to America and surrendering to oppressive powers; this is not rationality.” He also questioned the U.S.’s authority to interfere in Iran’s enrichment activities, declaring, “You have no right to say anything.”
On Tuesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian echoed similar sentiments, affirming that Tehran would not compromise its scientific and nuclear rights. However, he denied any intent to develop nuclear weapons. Pezeshkian accused those criticizing Iran of being the ones spreading weapons of mass destruction and destabilizing the region with lethal arms.
The rejection of the U.S. proposal underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program, a contentious issue that has long strained relations between Tehran and Western powers.
