Bangladesh Triumphs Over Bhutan with Goals from Hamza and Sohel

Sports Desk, 04 June, 2025 :  After a five-year hiatus, international football returned to Dhaka’s National Stadium, and Bangladesh celebrated with a vibrant 2-0 victory over Bhutan in a friendly match. Goals from debutant Hamza Choudhury and a stunning strike from Sohel Rana sealed the win for the Red and Greens.

The match saw Bangladesh take the lead in the sixth minute when Hamza Choudhury, a Leicester City midfielder, headed in a precise corner from Jamal Bhuiyan. The England-based midfielder won over fans in his debut on home soil. Despite several chances created by Fahmidul Islam’s pace and cutbacks, Bangladesh went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, coach Javier Cabrera made three substitutions, bringing on Hridoy, Morsalin, and Ibrahim. Just three minutes after the restart, Sohel Rana doubled the lead with a spectacular long-range strike in the 48th minute. Though Rakib Hossain and Fahmidul missed further chances, Bangladesh dominated possession. A late save by goalkeeper Mitul Marma ensured a clean sheet, thwarting a potential Bhutan goal in injury time.
With six substitutions, Cabrera tested the squad ahead of the upcoming Singapore match. The blend of debutants like Hamza and Fahmidul with seasoned players like Sohel showcased a promising future for Bangladesh football.
